Welcome to MICROPOL 2021 in Santiago de Compostela.
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 12th Micropol & Ecohazard Conference which will be held from June 6th to 10th, 2021 in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
In recent years, there is a growing interest in research and development on emerging micropollutants associated with water, wastewater, surface and ground water. The list of contaminants in the urban water cycle is being broadened continuously with more chemicals of emerging concern, such as microplastics, pharmaceuticals, personal care products, endocrine disrupting compounds, pesticides, etc. Moreover, effects such as antibiotic resistance are nowadays demanding a high attention.
This conference is part of the IWA ACHSW Specialist Group conference series, which are conceived as an international forum for discussion on state of the art in scientific development and technical solutions concerning emerging pollutant emission, treatment and effects. The conference includes more traditional topics as treatment at the source; monitoring & analysis; fate & behavior during wastewater and sludge treatment; environmental & risk assessment; monitoring & control and prioritization & regulation & public acceptance. In parallel, more innovative themes are considered such as biotransformation mechanisms, fate of nanoparticles and antibiotic resistance in natural/engineering environments, or occurrence, fate and effects of microplastics. With this conference program we expect to attract leading water researchers from all over the world.
The conference consists of single plenary talks of invited speakers that are leader in the fields of water and wastewater, followed by three parallel sessions of selected papers from submitted abstracts. Posters will be exhibited during the whole duration of the conference. The conference will start with a Young Water Professional Day on Sunday and finish with a technical visit on Thursday. On Tuesday we will meet at the Conference Dinner in a special location to enjoy the traditional Galician hospitality.
